Sojourners

Founded in 1971, Sojourners mission is to articulate the biblical call to social justice, inspiring hope and building a movement to transform individuals, communities, the church, and the world. We engage people of faith, policymakers, and the media with an alternative faith perspective to inform political and cultural discourse and enliven public debate.

We offer a vision for faith in public life by:

  • publishing Sojourners magazine, SojoMail e-mail newsletters, the God's Politics blog, and other resources that address issues of faith, politics, and culture from a biblical perspective;
  • preaching, teaching, organizing, and public witness;
  • nurturing community by bringing together people from the various traditions and streams of the church;
  • hosting an annual program of voluntary service for education, ministry, and discipleship.

We are a national network of churches, faith-based organizations, and individuals from across the theological and political spectrum. We work to influence public policies and priorities on a number of social justice issues, including poverty, war and peace, the environment, and human rights. Sojourners is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

World Vision

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Our work is motivated by our faith in Jesus Christ. We see a world where each child experiences “fullness of life,” as described in John 10:10. And we know this can only be achieved by addressing the problems of poverty and injustice in a holistic way. We bring over 55 years of experience in three key areas needed to help children and families thrive – emergency relief, long-term development, and advocacy. We bring all of our skills across many areas of expertise to each community where we work in nearly 100 countries, enabling us to care for children’s physical, social, and emotional well-being.

World Vision is proud to partner with Sojourners in the Mobilization to End Poverty. At this critical time in the history of our nation and our world, it is essential that we come together as a people of faith to respond to the cry of the poor. As Christians, we have a unique understanding of justice, a prophetic voice, and a call to serve that can transform lives through our collective action. We thank Sojourners for making their vision a reality through the Mobilization, and we thank all of you for joining this movement to build a more just and peaceful world.

We believe we are called to share God’s love with the world and do this in countless ways that add up to a big difference. Around the corner or around the world, where there is a need – spiritual, economic, physical – there are Lutherans ready to carry out God’s work with their own hands. The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the ELCA, is honored to speak at The Mobilization to End Poverty. We invite you to join us in this effort to speak and act on behalf of our brothers and sisters living in poverty and struggling to make ends meet.
