Capitol Hill Day
Date: Tuesday, April 28
Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Mobilization to End Poverty (M2EP) is committed to placing poverty on the top of the national political agenda. In order to accomplish this goal we will take our message directly to Capitol Hill with personal visits to members of Congress.
Together, we’ll cover Capitol Hill with hundreds of advocates meeting with their elected officials and asking for their commitment and leadership to enact a national plan to dramatically reduce domestic and international poverty.
As the new Congress begins in the spring, we’ll send participants information on our lobby day visits, including policy proposals and how to share your story. You’ll be representing your community and your church – your voice is very important!
Registration: Every attendee at The Mobilization is automatically signed up to participate in the Capitol Hill Day. Due to scheduling deadlines, people registering after April 10 will only be scheduled for Senate visits.
Capitol Hill Visits: Sojourners will seek to schedule appointments with elected officials, including your two state Senators and your individual Representative.
Sojourners will schedule all Hill visits, please do not contact your Member of Congress.
Teams: Advocates will be placed in state teams by the address they use to register for The Mobilization. Each team will have a captain to lead the group.
Transportation & Lunch: Due to the different meeting schedules, lunch and transportation to the Hill will not be arranged by Sojourners. Metro and taxi directions from the Convention Center to the Hill will be provided in your registration packet, along with a list of suggested lunch spots.
