WAR WATCH:
A summary of Sojourners' coverage and commentary as we continue to watch, pray, and act for peace.
Eleventh-Hour Initiative Could Have Prevented War
March 18, 2003
As war approached, the U.S. church leaders’ 6-point plan became a clear alternative to war and drew serious attention
at the highest levels of the British government, U.N., Congress, and even the State Department. Regrettably, on March 17,
2003, President Bush closed the door on diplomacy and war began 48 hours later.

An Urgent Appeal to the Churches
We believe that U.S. war against Iraq is unjust and immoral. As a "pre-emptive" attack unprecedented in our history,

A Statement by Sojourners
March 20, 2003
The U.S. war on Iraq is a failure of political and moral imagination. Sojourners continues to believe that war is
not the answer to the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. Our political leaders did not exhaust all diplomatic options.

National Teach-In on the War on Iraq
From February 24-28, Sojourners organized students and citizens across the country to explore the complex issues
surrounding the war on Iraq and engage in a dialogue about creative, nonviolent alternatives. Although war has begun,
teach-ins continue to play a critical role in expressing resistance to this unjust war.
>>To organize a teach-in, download the organizer’s packet,
reading materials, flyer, and more.
Church Statements
Leaders of many denominations, seminaries, and faith organizations spoke out against the war.
